  • WHAT DOES AN EARLY CHILDHOOD PROFESSIONAL DO?

    If you enjoy working with young children and families, a career in early childhood education might be a good choice for you. Early childhood professionals work in preschools, child care centers or home daycares and focus on the growth and development of children from infancy to six years of age. Those best suited for this career have a lot of energy, flexibility and nurturing ability. It is a chance to use your creativity by developing and modifying ideas to enrich young minds.

    Learning at Washburn Tech

    Our early childhood education program provides child care training in the processes and principles of child growth and development. Instruction emphasizes social, emotional, physical and cognitive development in addition to support services for children. You will gain hands-on experience by working in the licensed child care center on our campus, Little Learners at Washburn Tech, or another center in the community. Students may earn either a Cert A of 24-credit-hours or a Cert C of 48-credit-hours. Upon completion of a Cert C, you will be eligible to complete a more advanced degree in early childhood education at .

    For dual-credit high school students submission of an application, official partial transcript, and consent to enroll form are required. Adult students must complete an application and submit an official copy of all transcripts. Please see an admissions counselor for details.

    Early Childhood Certification

    Upon completion, you will earn a 24 credit hour technical certificate as well as CPR and OSHA-10 certification.

    Enter the Workforce

    Upon completion, you will be prepared to enter the workforce.
